Hypocenter

On my last day in Nagasaki,  I left the temple with the turtle and Kannon and started walking to Peace Park.

On my way, I saw a broken gate and two trees that survived the atomic blast.

These were remnants of the atomic blast. Two trees that were originally thought to be dead but grew back and a gate that was broken. I kept walking, not sure if I wanted to visit the museum, but I kept walking.

I didn’t take any pictures. It didn’t feel right to be a tourist at that place and at that moment.

There is a park there now, with sakura trees, statues, and a window into ground zero that the park was built upon.

There is an eternal flame burning that came from the Olympic flame. In ancient Greece, it was said that all wars stopped during the Olympics. The eternal flame will keep on burning until all wars end.

I’m sure there are pictures all over if you want to see it, but I just couldn’t take any.

I have been to the hypocenter of both nuclear bombs and gone through both museums. War is horrible, and the devastation wrought by these 2 bombs makes you think why we do this to each other? How we can treat other humans this way?

It was a sad day thinking about how men in power who know each other send others who don’t to settle their quarrels.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to recover from an atomic bomb. Things get crazy here when we get a little too much snow.
