I woke up and grabbed the train to the base of the next temple. This one was the tallest of them.

I grabbed a bus from the station, which took me to the bottom of the mountain. I walked 3.2 km uphill in the rain, and by walk, I meant power walked. I made it up in amazing time to the gondola at 250 meters.
Temple 66 – Unpenji, is at 950 meters above sea level, which probably would have a great view, but both times I took the Gondola this trip, it was rainy and you could barely see anything.
Kūkai visited the temple at the request of Emeror Saga (786 – 842) and carved the main diety and enshrined it there. It became a place of learning during 1192 – 1333, then it was burnt down in the 16th century.
