No rain but high winds. I wore my rain gear to just block the wind. I had to get to Temple 23 – Yakuōji. I had accommodations set there, and it was the only place I could find. I am getting into the busy season, so now I’m going to be competing with car, bus, and bike travlers.
I had a choice. I could not check in until 3 pm, and left my hostile at 8 am. I could take a train that would take 30 minutes and have nothing to do for almost 8 hours or I could walk. I chose to walk the path close to the ocean, I figured that would be the flatter one. I was wrong. I felt like I was walking uphill forever, but at least it was at a gentle rise. 15 or 20 degrees rather than the 45-50, some of the mountain ones I was on were. So I walked over 2 mountains and came back down. I was exhausted and looked where I was, and found a train station there. I sat down out of the wind there. The train was a little less than 2 hours away, so I sat there and rested my legs and my back.
See, I brought too much. The weight I am carrying is not sustainable. When I get to the next big city, I am going to send a few things home I am not using on a daily basis.
Train saved me, maybe 4 miles, but at that point, I was ok with it, I had walked nearly 10 miles in a small mountainous area.
I made it to Temple 23, which was up quite a few steps and made my way to the house I was staying at, HENRO HOUSE Guest House sakura-an. I had a bed with an electric blanket and one of the warmest blankets I have ever used. Overall, a good night sleep and curry rice for breakfast, which I love. Would recommend staying there again.
I also stopped for some delicious ramen.
