I received my Yunyu Kakunin-sho, the certificate to take more than one month’s worth of medication into Japan.
It is a difficult to understand process, and supposedly, you can do it all online, but for the life of me, I can not change the address portion into American. It has been stuck in Japan address format.
I would have still gone on the trip even if I got denied, but I would have shortened it to the 30-day supply and cut my trip short. I quit my job to take this adventure, so I was still going in some capacity (and i had non-refundable plane tickets).
Without my medication, I become violently ill and can not take in nutrition. Even with medication, I am constantly nauseous and vomit randomly. Sitting here writing this I feel horrible.
It feels like I am regressing, and the medicine is not as helpful as it was a year ago. So if I want to take a trip that could take me nearly 2 months to complete, I feel like I have to do it now before my health continues to decline and I need more severe measures to be able to eat what little I can now.
Gastroparesis is a condition that affects the normal spontaneous movement of the muscles (motility) in your stomach. Ordinarily, strong muscular contractions propel food through your digestive tract. But if you have gastroparesis, your stomach’s motility is slowed down or doesn’t work at all, preventing your stomach from emptying properly… as defined by the Mayo Clinic.
I have trouble eating anything that isn’t soft or already broken down to its base components. Meats, fruits and vegetables are difficult to break down unless they are ground, blended or broken down into a paste.
What I tell people, best things for me to eat, if I can’t crush it with my finger into a paste easily while it is sitting on the plate I will probably have trouble eating it, and even then it’s iffy if it has a high fat content. Muscles, fiber, and fat are difficult to digest. I mainly eat eggs, noodles, soups, mashed potatoes, and similar, and when im feeling good, I will eat some chips or tortilla chips for texture.
This trip will be difficult, and I may not be able to finish it, but this might be my last chance to try (with the help of Zophran).
I have almost everything I need for my trip, and I have to carry everything in one backpack, so im traveling light.
I will be updating this as I go as a record of my adventure.
Thank you for following.
